Thanksgiving

This is the time of year that we all give thanks. We have spent this time with family and friends. We enjoy the goodness that God has blessed us to have and to share with others. Let us all be reminded to be thankful in all things. It is the good pleasure of God to bless you. Everything we have is a blessing from God for which we should be thankful. Our attitude should be one of gratitude. Don’t wait until this time next year to be thankful. Be thankful in all things.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

God Bless.

He Heard Me

We pray to God for help.  Do we know that He hears our prayers?  Rest assured that God does hear your prayers.  He is attent unto your prayers.  He hears you when you cry unto Him.  He is heaven on His throne and He hears you when you call.

Remember this great truth and know that He hears you.  Now pause for a moment and consider how powerful that is!

Psalm 3:4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

God Bless.

Good Cheer

One of the greatest things that Christ told us is to, “Be of good cheer.”  Christ wanted us to be encouraged while we are here in this world.  He knows and understands that we all have trials and temptations.  He understands the troubles that we must endure because we are in this world.

Nothing in this world should cause us to fear.  We should always remember that Christ has already overcome the world.  Never forget that wonderful news!  No matter what may come you way, no matter what you may have to endure, no matter the circumstances, Be of Good Cheer, Christ has overcome the world.

John 16:33  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

God Bless.

Grace

I have but one thought this evening.  I pray that God will bestow upon you His Grace.  The grace of God is what you need for every aspect of your life.  The grace of God is the unmerited favor of God.  You don’t do anything to earn it.  You can’t do anything to but it.  God gives His grace as He chooses.  It is His to so how it pleases Him.

I pray that God floods your life with His grace.  Please pray the same for me.

Philippians 1:2  Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

God Bless.

The Book

Have you read the book?  Do you know what you are supposed to do?  How are you supposed to act?  What are the rules?  Can you tell me any of the rules without looking them up?

I am sure that you know what book I am talking about.  You should read you bible everyday.  You should learn it.  You should know it.  You should be able to quote it.  You should use it to guide you in all aspects of your life.

Read it.  Study it. Learn it.  Memorize it.  Know it.  Live it.  Your life will be so much better.  Do you want to be successful?  Read the book, it’s in there.  Do you want to prosper along the way?  Read the book, it’s in there.

Joshua 1:8  This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

God Bless.

Delight

Do you read your bible?  Do you read it everyday?  The word of God should be a very important part of your life.  Our purpose in life is to please our Heavenly Father.  How can we do the things that please God if we don’t know what He desires?  The word of God and His laws are preserved in the Holy Scriptures.

Do you know what is written in the word of God?  Do you read it to know more?  Do you enjoy learning more of the things of God?  You are in a blessed state when the words of God are your delight.  Your mind should be thinking on the word of God all the time, day and night.  Is it your delight?  Do you meditate on it day and night?   If not, why not?

Psalm 1:2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

God Bless.

Lying Lips

Why do people tell lies? It makes a person you look very bad. The bible states that excellent speech is not fitting for a fool. But more than that, it is even worse for a prince to have lying lips.

It is really bad for a child of God to tell lies. Telling lies makes you worse than a fool. Why would a child of God feel the need to tell lies? These things ought not be so!

Proverbs 17:7 Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.

God Bless.

Continue

I want to be short and simple with my thoughts today.  You started it, finish it.  Don’t give up.  Don’t go back to where you started.  You have made it this far, keep going.  It may be tough, God gives you grace.  You may be tired, Christ will give you rest.  You may not know which way to go, the Spirit will guide you.

You know this.  You have been taught in the things of God.  Continue in the things that you have been taught.

2 Timothy 3:14  But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

God Bless.

Must Be

I would like to share with you a verse that has really stuck with me the last few days.  I think that we can all relate to the thought that is being presented by our Lord, Jesus Christ.  We all must strive to be more like Christ and follow His example.  We must also have the mind of Christ and His way of thinking.

There was never an idle moment in the life of Christ.  He was always doing the things that God desired.  Christ was focused in all that He was doing.  His focus was to please His Father.  Christ never moved from that focus.  He was always doing His Father’s business.

We need to have the same mind of Christ.  We need to be focused on doing the things that please God.  We must be about our Father’s business.

Luke 2:49   And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?

God Bless.

What Is Required?

What is required?  Have you ever asked that question?  Have you ever wanted to know what God wants from you?  If you only knew, right?

If you really want to know all you have to do is read the bible.  It has all the answers that you are looking for.  The requirements that God has for His people are very simple to understand.  There is no need to “read between the lines.”  God has given us very detailed instructions.  He always takes care to give the most minute detail.  You don’t have to add anything to what He has instructed.  God always tell you HOW to do everything He wants you to do.  If He wants you to do it, He will tell you how to do it.  If God did not give you instructions on how to do it, He did not want it done.  God’s way is simple and He simply wants it do.

The Lord said it pretty plainly in the book of Deuteronomy.

  1. Fear Him.
  2. Walk in His ways.
  3. Love Him.
  4. Serve Him.
  5. Keep His commandments and statutes.

Now that we know what is required, are we doing what we should do?  Hey, it is for our own good.

Deuteronomy 10:12-13  And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

God Bless.

Not Your Own

Dear friends, I want us to understand on of the main lessons that is taught in the bible.  You are NOT your own.  Everyone of us believe that we are in control of our own lives.  We believe that we can do anything that we want.  No one can tell us how to live.  We believe that we don’t have to answer to anyone.

God does not see it that way.  There are many verses which give us insight into God’s desire for our lives.  God has provided us with all the details we need to understand why we were created.  God created everything.  He has a purpose for His creation.  The bible tells us plainly that we belong to God.  We are created to serve and honor Him.

Does your life glorify your Creator?

Colossians 1:16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

God Bless.

Refresh Yourself

Why do we go to church? Our main reason should always to worship God. There are also other benefits that we are blessed to receive when we assemble with the saints. I want to point you to one of the other benefits of going church with the people of God.

There are many things in this world that get us down. You don’t need to look very hard to find things in this world that cause you to feel stressed. What can we do to help lift our spirits when we let the troubles of life bring us down? Go to church!

In the 27th chapter of the book of Acts, the Apostle Paul was being held prisoner. But in the 3rd verse we read that he was given liberty from the prison for a moment of time to be with his friends. Paul was allowed to meet with his friends to refresh himself. It is refreshing to enjoy the time spent with the saints of God. The love of the Brethren is unmatched by anything this world has to offer. Friendship and hospitality can revive a weary spirit.

Let us all seek out opportunities to “leave our prison” and refresh ourselves even if but for only a little while. Come out of the world and spend time with your friends, refresh yourself, and worship God.

Acts 27:3 And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.

God Bless.

Prove Yourself

This morning we need to look at how we are living our lives. Do we truly live our lives for God? Is God the focus of our existence? Do you let your light shine to give glory to God in all things?

You have to prove yourself. Do you approve of the life you live? Does God approve?

Galatians 6:4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

God Bless.

The Potter’s Choice

Jeremiah went down to the potter’s house.  What did he see?  He saw the potter working on the potter’s wheel.  As the potter worked, something happened to the lump of clay that the potter was using.  The clay marred in the potter’s hand.  The potter was not the reason that the clay marred.

At this point, the potter had to make a decision.  First option, toss the lump of clay to the side and start over with a new lump of clay.  Second option, use the same lump of clay and make it again.  If you were the potter, what would you do?  Would you choose option one or option two?  Either choice you choose would be fine, right?  It is your choice, you are the potter, right?

What if I were the potter?  Would I have the same options?  Sure I would, that’s fair, right?  Either choice I make would be fine, right?  I am the potter, right?  For me being the potter, either option I choose is the best one I could make, I am the potter, right?

What if you choose an option that is different from the option I choose?  Who is right in their choice?  Are you right and I am wrong?  Am I right and you are wrong?  How do you know?  The correct option depends on who is the potter, right?

Do you want to start over with new clay?  But what if I think you should use the same clay over again?  Does it matter to you that I think you are wrong?  After all, it is your clay and you are the potter.  Your choice of how to proceed is up to you, not me.  It really does not matter to you if I don’t like your choice.  It was your turn to be the potter.  When I am the potter, I can do it how I like it, right?  Even little kids understand that rule.  You do what makes you happy and I will do what makes me happy.  If I don’t like it, I will take my clay and go home.  Elementary stuff, right?

Why is it that we will give ourselves the power to choose, but we refuse to give God the same power to choose?  Ultimately, God is the potter and we are the clay.  God is the Potter, the Creator.  He had the power to choose what to do when the clay(man) marred(sinned) in His hand.  I am thankful that it pleased Him to make it again.  He used the same lump and made it again.  Why?  It pleased Him.  He was, is, the potter.  He is the One that has the two options.  He is the One with the power to choose.

Would it really matter if I thought His choice was wrong?  Not that I do.  I am thankful for His choice.  Would it matter if I thought it was wrong for God to have the option to choose?  Not that I do, but would it matter?  No, God is the potter and He has to power to do whatsoever pleases Him.

If I don’t like it, I should get my own clay and do it the way I want, right?

Jeremiah 18:6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

God Bless.

Repeated?

What is the reason to repeat something?  Do you ever repeat yourself?  There is sometimes a problem when we repeat ourselves.  Did the other person not hear what I said, and I have to repeat myself?  Did they understand what it was that I said?

There are also those times that I repeat myself because I need to stress my point.  When we read the bible, we must know that if it is written only once, it is still important because it is in the bible.  If it is written and repeated, we must take heed to what is being said.  When God, our Heavenly Father, repeats something it is very important.

One such example is found in 1 John 4.  In this chapter, John is dealing with a very central theme that is key to the entire bible.  This one point is only three little words.  But there is so much power in what is being said.  John was led by the Spirit of God to repeat the phrase a second time.  We need to heed the seriousness of the phrase and never forget the lesson being taught.  After all, it was repeated.

“God Is Love.”

1 John 4:8  He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 4:16  And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

God Bless.

Do It

How hard does it have to be?  Why do we struggle at the easiest things?  We make things more difficult than they have to be.

It is not hard to follow the rules.  Just do what your are told to do.  Your obedience is required.  As the old Nike commercial said, “Just Do It!”

God has given us the rule book to follow.  He has given us His law.  We have no excuses not to follow all that God tells us to do.  Read and study the bible in order to understand all that God has said to do, and DO IT!

John 2:5  His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

God Bless.

Eat So Much

One of the things that we as children of God face today is the need to take care of our body. After all, our body is the temple of God. Remember that we are not our own, we are bought with a price.

We need to care for our body. We must ensure that we have proper nutrition. Proper nutrition is key to a healthy body. If we want our body to be healthy, we must monitor what we put in our mouths. Healthy food for a healthy body. Treat your body right. Glorify God with your body. Feed your body for only what it needs. Don’t over do it.

Your body is the temple of God. Glorify God in all things.

Proverbs 25:16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

God Bless.

Are You Vexed?

We need to be aware of the activities in which we participate.  It is important to carefully choose the company you keep.  Don’t go to places that are not good for you.  Listen to things that add value to your life.  Forget the idea, “Everybody is doing it.”

I know that you want to live a life that gives God glory.  You must be aware of every aspect of your life and how each part influences you.  It is important to surround yourself with Godly people.  Listen to Godly conversations and music.  Go places that God would be pleased to find you.  Do the things that honor God by you being a participant.

Live in the Light that God has given you.  Dwell in that Light.  Darkness cannot dwell in the same place.  Glorify God in all things.

2 Peter 2:7  And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

God Bless.

“Let”

How To Think Like God Thinks” wants you to know that we all need to improve our understanding of the things of God.  We must learn the things of God and His Son Jesus Christ.  The bible tells of the way that God thinks.  When we know the things of God, we know How to Think Like God Thinks.

It is now left to us to decide what we are going to do with this information.  I want to encourage you to apply this knowledge and understanding to your life.  You have to use the information in your life.  It is up to you to use it or not.  You have to Let This Mind Be In You.  Let your life be guided by the mind of Christ.  Let your life be guided and directed by thinking like Christ.  You must choose to think like God.

Philippians 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

God Bless.

Attent Unto Prayer

Does God listen?  Does God hear when we pray to Him?  Does it seem at times that God does not even care?

I want you to know and remember a very important fact.

God hears your prayers!!!

We need to remember this at all times.  God is very attent to our prayers.  God is very active in the lives of His children.  God so loves His children.  God cares for you more than you can fully comprehend this side of heaven.  He listens to your every cry.  He knows your needs even better than you know them.  He knows everything about your present situation and your future.  God has your best interest in mind at all times.

We don’t always understand the reasons for the ways that God interacts in our lives.  We can’t know the future, so we don’t have all the details of what is best for us.  God has all the details.  He listens to us.  He knows our desires.  He responds in the way that is best for us and in the way that is in harmony with His will and purpose.  God is gracious and merciful to His children.

We need to be attentive to the Spirit of God that we have within us.  We need to listen well in order to be able to know when He is giving us the answer that we seek.  Sometimes God gives the answer of “yes.”  Sometimes God says “no.”  There are times that the answer that God gives us is “not now.”

Never forget!  God listens to your prayers.  God hears your prayers.  God answers your prayers.

Are you listening for the answer?

2 Chronicles 7:15  Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

God Bless.

Trust

Who do you trust? Do you trust you spouse? Do you trust your family and friends? How about your coworkers? Do you put trust in the government? How about the strangers that drive on the roads with you? Can you trust yourself?

With regard to Spiritual matters, there can only be trust in God. Eternally speaking, there is nothing that sinful man can do to gain an eternal home. God took care of the eternal home for ALL of His children. The work of Eternal Salvation was finished on the cross. The fact that Christ was rose from the dead on the third day proved that GOD was satisfied with the sacrifice. The righteousness of Christ is imputed to us by the grace and mercy of God. The Apostle Paul spoke in Romans chapter 10 about some that lacked knowledge of the righteousness of God and were trying to make themselves righteous. They already had eternal life. That fact is confirmed to us in that Paul had witnessed the zeal of God in them. Paul told us that their zeal was “of” God not “toward” God. These people were confused and thought that their efforts were the cause of their eternal life. The Apostle Paul testified that he had seen proof that they were children of God. He prayed that God would deliver them from their lack of understanding of the source or cause of their eternal life.
You see, the people in Romans 10 “trusted in themselves that they were righteous.” Too many of God’s children today are in the same situation. In all things, whether it is eternally or timely, we must needs give God the glory. He is the source of our eternal life and He is the source of our desire to do good works. Give God the credit He deserves, give Him the glory.

Luke 18:9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

Romans 10

It Is Simple

Don’t ever let anyone try to tell you that it is hard to understand the things of God. The word of God is given to the children of God and are written for our learning.  God is not the author of confusion.  If there seem to be trouble with the understanding of the gospel, we need to look at it again.  There is no confusion in the scriptures.

The bible is for the child of God to know and understand the things of God and His desires for us.  It tells of His love for us and what He expects from us.  With this knowledge, we can live a life that pleases God and gives Him the glory that He deserves.  Apply yourself to know more about God.  Study the word of God.  Increase in wisdom.  You will be blessed!

2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Psalm 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

God Bless.

Is He Involved?

Do you live your life to serve God?  Is God pleased with the life you live?  How much is God an active part of your life?  Is He involved with the day-to-day activity of your life?

What do you think?  Is God an active participant of passive observer of your life?

There are some that think that God controls every little detail of your life.  They believe that absolutely everything you do is caused by God.  There are those that believe God set the world in motion and just sits back and watches to see what may happen.  They think that God does not get involved in the things of man.  Both of these views are the extremes of possibilities.  The truth of the matter lies in the middle of the road.  God is an active part when He chooses and just an observer when He chooses.  In both parts, God is sovereign, holy and righteous.  We may not understand why He participates or chooses to only observe, either way, He has that right as the Righteous Creator of the Universe.

God is very active in the lives of His children.  He allows them to have input and choice in the direction they go in this life.  As we choose the way upon which we go, our choice should be in accordance and in harmony with HIs will.  In the new birth, God gives us a new heart, a good heart.  When we follow after the goodness of the heart that God has given us, He is pleased to assist us along our journey.  God directs our steps.  Are you walking in the way that pleases God?  He will be there to help you every step of the way.

Proverbs 16:9  A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

God Bless.

Unto All

Just as God is no respecter of persons, we are not to be a respecter of persons.  We need to treat everyone that crosses our path with respect.  Treat everyone as our equal.  Share the love that God has given you.  Give them a smile, you have enough that you can share.

Love thy neighbor as thyself.  Give the love that God has given you unto all that cross your path.  Share the joy of your life with everyone you meet.  Do good unto all.  Who has God Blessed today through you?

Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

God Bless.

Respect

God has blessed us. Each of us have been blessed differently. But we are all blessed of God. God loves his children. Each child of God is special to Him. We should treat every person with which we have the privilege of interacting as the special person they are. Remember they are a child of God and they are special to Him.

Treat everyone as the special person they are, blessed of God. Everyone is equal in the eyes of God. No one person is better than any other. We are all equally blessed of God. We are equally respected of God. We are to respect just as God respects.

James 2:1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

God Bless.

One God

Tonight I am thankful. I am thankful that we serve the One, the True, the Living God! I am thankful for the truth that we can call Him our Father! He is the One God and Father of us all! He is greater than all. He is above all. We are united as one in Him because of His Spirit that is in all His children. The Spirit that is in you is the same Spirit that is in our brethren and it is the same Spirit that is in me. We are not separate. We are one. We are one in the Spirit. Can you see why we are commanded to love one another as we love ourselves? The same God is IN all His children. We are ONE in Him because HE is in us!
Brethren Love One Another! As God SO loved you!

Ephesians 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

God Bless.

In Me

Most of the time you will hear ministers tell you that it is not about you. It is about God and your brethren. Most of the time that should be the case. Today I am going to point to a time when it is good for it to be about you.

You must be thinking and wondering to what I am considering. Let’s look at a time in the experience of the Apostle Paul. He wrote in the first chapter of the book of Galatians about how he was perceived by the brethren in the churches of Judaea. These people had not meet him before. They had only heard about him. It was a change from what was said in the past about him. Before this time, the “word on the street” about Saul was that he persecuted the church and tried to destroy it. Now the people have heard that he was now preaching the faith he once destroyed.

There was now a different reaction in response to the news about the Apostle Paul. Now, when people hear about and speak about the Apostle Paul, they glorify God. This is a time or situation in our lives that it is good to be the one being talked about. The people’s conversations were about Paul, but the focus was on giving glory to God. That should be the same in our situations. When others speak about us, is it giving glory to God? Is our light so shining that others see it and are giving glory to God when talking about us?

Ask yourself this question, “Is God glorified In Me?”

Galatians 1:24 And they glorified God in me.

God Bless.

Be Strong

Where do you get your strength?  In this world of trouble, you need a source that is never-failing.  You need a source that is always available.  You need a source that can meet your every need.  There is only one source that can meet that list of needs.  Where do you get your strength?  The Grace of God!  God never fails.  God is always available.  God can meet your every need.  GOD IS ABLE!  Be Strong in Grace!

2 Timothy 2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

God Bless.

Strive For Masteries

Do you “strive for masteries”?  If not, why not?  Everything that you do, whatever talents you have been given, you should desire to be the best that you can, even to the point that you may be called a master at your craft.  If God gives you the talent, He gives you the ability to excel.  The question that still remains, “Do I want to use the talents that God gave me and do the best that is possible in order to please God?”

In our quest for mastery of our God-given talents, we must remember that there is a right way and a wrong way to proceed.  We must do all things lawfully.  You need to play by the rules.  God has given us the rules to live by and we call the rulebook, The Bible.  You have the commandments of God to guide you in all things.  Be obedient to God’s laws and follow His commandments.   “Play by the rules!”

Not only should we follow the rules in our quest for masteries of our gifts and talents, but that applies to every aspect of our lives.  Anything we do, should be done to the best of our abilities and by the book.  In our job, follow the rules.  In our relationships, follow the rules.  In dealing with our family and friends, follow the rules.

If it is worth doing, it is worth doing right.  If it is worth doing right, it must be done God’s way.  Do it God’s way and be crowned, be honored, and be blessed.

2 Timothy 2:5  And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

God Bless.

Tell The Truth

Do you sware to, “Tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?”

Are you a faithful witness?  If you are called on to give testimony, always tell the truth.  Tell exactly the things that you witnessed.  Remember that you are a child of God.  God knows all things.  He knows if you are faithful in your actions.

Don’t be the one that tells lies.  Don’t be the one that can not be trusted in the situation.  If you can’t tell the truth then it is best not to say anything at all.

Proverbs 14:5  A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

God Bless.

Wake Up America!

Wake Up America!

This country was founded on things that are good and right.  This country was founded on knowing the difference between right and wrong.

Why are we going down the path of destruction?  Why do we call good things bad and bad things good?

This country has left the Godly principles on which it was founded.  If we want it to be a great nation once again, we must stand for righteousness.  All the ungodly actions we see today only bring shame and disgrace to our land.

Proverbs 14:34  Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Pride

There is no room for pride in our lives.  Pride stems from the ego.  The ego has an elevated view self.  This regard of self as being better than others causes us to disrespect others.  If you don’t respect others, you will love in the manner that you are commanded.  Pride causes conflict.  It causes trouble among one another.  It is best to respect others as we would like to be respected.  Put aside our pride and love one another as we love ourselves.  Follow the commandments of the bible, increase our knowledge and glorify God in all things.  There is no room for pride in our lives if we desire to live a godly life.

Proverbs 13:10  Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

God Bless.

Learning

“Learn from your mistakes.”

Has anyone ever told you that?  I have said and heard it many times.  I hope that as I look back on my life experiences, I can say that I have truly learned from my mistakes.  Sometimes it can be hard to admit that we have made a mistake, especially if someone else has pointed out our mistake.  We should all strive to use good judgement and not make the mistake in the first place.  In order to do that, we first need the knowledge and wisdom that comes from making mistakes and learning from them.  I am sure that you have all seen the quote, “Good judgement comes from experience and experience comes from poor judgement.”

There is always a benefit to gaining an increase of knowledge.  When we are corrected or instructed in a better way by some one in a teaching situation, let us learn from their counsel.  Don’t refuse their attempts to help us to have better understanding.  Nothing good can come from that situation.  There is honor for the one who can humble themself and put aside their pride and learn from the kind instruction of others.

Proverbs 13:18  Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

The Switch

I found something very interesting when I looked up the word ROD. The first definition that was given was: A shoot or long twig of any woody plant; a branch, or the stem of a shrub. The second definition that is given was: An instrument of punishment or correction; chastisement. Some of you younger folks may be wondering why I find this interesting. Those of you that are my generation and older know exactly what I am talking about and probably know where I am going with this post.

Have any of you ever had someone that was in a position of authority to tell you to “get me a switch!”? You knew you were in trouble now. If you were honest with yourself, you knew that you were in trouble before that commandment came. The switch was an instrument of punishment or correction. It was used to administer chastisement. Am I the only one who remembers the switch?

Another aspect of the switch that I remember was a statement that was vocalized just prior to the beginning of the switching session. Do you remember what was said? Some of you may be thinking it was, “Let the beatings begin!” Although that could be applicable, it is not the classic statement to which I am referring. “This is going to hurt me more than it does you.” Yet another good one that expresses some of the thought on my mind, but still not the classic one on my mind. Well, here it is, “I am only doing this because I love you.”

Unfortunately, too many young persons and children do not know the benefit of the chastening rod. Too many parents have been deceived into the false idea that if they really love their children then they should not discipline their children. They have been fooled by the worlds thinking that you should let children “express themselves,” or that you might “bruise their ego” if you spank them. Let me ask you something. Have you seen the effects of children that express themselves in public and the parent just let them continue to go on and on and on? You know what I am referring to, you have seen it just as I have.

Now is the time for action! Parents, if you want to show your love for your children, you need to return to God’s Word to see how you should deal with your children when they misbehave. The bible is very clear on God’s desires toward your children and how you are to guide them. In matters of discipline the scriptures show us that God’s view is in great contrast to what we see being displayed in the world today.

I will admit to you that part of my comments may seem to be a bit personal and may even seen to be that I am on my soapbox with my comments. If that is how it appears to you then please accept my sincere apology. But at the same time, I will not apologize for the scriptural truth on this subject that tells us How To Think Like God Thinks. We must compare our views with what the bible tells us about God’s views. If we have differing views than those of God, WE must change our views.

Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

God Bless.

Stirred Up

I have mentioned in a previous post that I wanted to Stir You Up in your service to God.  In the post yesterday I spoke about the things that Defile Us are the things that come from within us.

In our day-to-day activities we should manifest the Spirit of God that is within us.  We need to let our Light shine.  We can be affected by the people who are around us.  We can be stirred up in the good things that are within us.  The Light that is within us allows us to be stirred up in a good way.  This is a much better way to be affected by the people around us.  May we all strive to be filled with the things of God and the things that pertain unto godliness.  Don’t be filled with the things of the world.

What ever is within you is the same that will come out of you when you are stirred up.  Let us always be stirred up and put in remembrance of the things of God!

2 Peter 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2 Peter 1:13  Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

God Bless.

Defile Us

“It’s what’s on the inside that counts.”  Have you ever heard that saying before?  Do you believe it is true?  I think that we all can think of examples that will prove this point.

In the bible it is true.  We can see that there are many scriptures that uphold this thought.  Consider the heart of a man.  I am not referring to the muscular pump that is circulating the blood throughout the body.  I am referring to the essence of a man, the new man, the heart of man.  Do you agree?  It is true that it is what’s on the inside that counts.

Nothing from the outside can defile a person.  It is that which comes from within that defiles a person.  I am sure we are all familiar with the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.”  When someone speaks badly of us, that is external to us.  It is from the outside and it does not defile us.  When we speak badly of another person, that is from within and that defiles us.

Do you love you neighbor?  You cannot give something that you don’t have to give.  If we love our neighbor as we love ourselves, we show the love of God that is within us.  How can we speak badly about someone to hurt them, if the love of God is within us?  Our saying hurtful things toward others does not defile them, it defiles us.  We are defiled by that which is within us:  envy, hatred, lust, anger and the like.  If it is not within you, it cannot proceed from within you.  Have you ever had someone who always make you mad, someone who seems to always ”push your buttons”?   If you did not have any buttons for them to push, how could they always push them?  If something they say or do bothers you, it is because it is within you, not them.  Your response proceeds from within you not from an outside source.

May God bless us to get rid of all our buttons so that there is nothing within us to defile us.

Mark 7:15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

God Bless.

What is your choice?

You have a choice.  Did you know that?  It has always been your choice.  What choice am I talking about?  I am talking about the only choice that we have.  “To sin, or not to sin?” that is the question.  This is the choice that is presented in the scriptures.  All of the information that is presented in the bible tells us about God and all that He has done for His children.  It also tells us how to be obedient children.  We have been given a choice, do we want to be obedient unto God and His commandments or are we going to follow the sin nature of the flesh?  It is your choice.  This is something over which you have control.  As the Apostle Paul said, “Let not sin therefore reign.”  See the choice?

Let or Let not?  There is no try.

What is your choice?

Romans 6:12  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Hath and Hath Not

Matt. 13:12…For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

In this day and age, we hear lots of talk about how unfair our society is to the different classes of people.  We have all heard or may have even said things like: “It is not fair.”  “Life is not fair.”  “Why do they have all the good stuff, I don’t have what he has and it is not fair.”  Too much emphasis is placed on having “stuff.”  Jealousy and envy are at the root of a lot of problems we face today.

Sounds like I should be writing about “Thou shall not covet.”  But I have chosen this verse for another reason.  At first glance this verse would seem to be embracing a popular phrase of the day.  “The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.”  Is this really a verse that supports that thought?  To draw that conclusion you must take the scripture out of context.  I will show, Lord willing, that this verse does not teach that thought.  Instead, it is teaching a lesson on obedience and not possessions.

We always have to rightly divide the scriptures. In order to rightly divide, we have to use the context in which the scripture was written.  Many of the teachings of the gospels are found in more than one place.  To have the best understanding possible, we should look at all accounts.  The other accounts may give us more light on the thought being presented.  As we look at the whole picture of this gospel teaching, we will see what Christ was teaching.

Many of the teachings of Christ are done in parables.  This verse is part of the teaching from the parable of the sower. The parable of the sower is taught in Matthew 13, Mark 4, and Luke 8.  There are many things that we can learn from the parable and its explanation.   I want to bring out a few points that help to make the point about our verse.  In Mark’s account, Christ said unto them, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”  The born again child of God has the ears to hear.  In the explanation of the parable you will notice that in all four situations the people heard the word.  These are all children of God and they all have ears to hear.  Each area represents a different situation in life that a child of God may be found.  We may find ourselves in each of the different areas at different times in our life.

In Mark and Luke, Christ gives more instruction to those that have ears to hear.  We are told by Christ to “take heed.”  When we are blessed to hear the gospel, we need to take heed.  The things that we hear are special and important.  They are for the child of God.  That is a special blessing that should not be taken lightly.  We need to handle with care.  In Hebrews 2:1 we are told, “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.”

In Luke, Christ said to “take heed therefore ‘how’ ye hear.”  When you go to church to listen to the preaching, what mindset are you in?  Do you pray that the Lord will bless you to “hear” the message that day?  Do you go to church with all the cares of the world on your mind or do you put them aside during the service?  How we hear is just as important as what we hear.  That is exactly the thought that Christ presented in Mark, “Take heed ‘what’ ye hear.”  Are we hearing the truth and letting it slip?  Are we holding on to all we hear?  The main point is to TAKE HEED.  You must take heed to what and how you hear.  You don’t want to be as those that hear in the wayside, stony places, or among thorns.  You want to be in the good ground.  You want to be fruitful.  You want the word to be fruitful.  When you hear the word, you want to understand it, you want to receive it, and you want to keep it.

Christ told the hearers to take heed.  He then told them why they should take heed.  “For whosoever hath,” – taken heed.  “Whosoever hath not,” – taken heed.  If you have taken heed to what you hear, to you shall be given and you shall have more abundance.  If you have not taken heed to what you hear, from you shall be taken away even that you hath.  Just like those that were in the wayside, stony places or among thorns, if you don’t take heed, you could lose what you have.  To be like those in the good ground, you must take heed to what you hear to be fruitful.  If you are obedient to the command to take heed, you will be blessed with even more and that in abundance.

“For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.”

God Bless.

What is the Benefit?

This information tonight is for the child of God that feels the weight and guilt of sin.  After the Spirit of God has written God’s law in your heart and mind, there is a change that takes place in your life.  You are no longer comfortable doing the things that before had given you pleasure.  You now find yourself feeling ashamed of the things you used to enjoy.  Do you know what I am talking about?

What benefit did you have in those things that now you find shameful?  Those things lead only to other problems.  Why would you continue in them?  Do you like the trouble and heartache?  If you are like me you are asking yourself, WHY?  Why do I do the things that I now find shameful?  Why? Why? Why?  What is the benefit?

Romans 6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

Freedom!

Are you free or are you still in bondage?  Are you under the law or are you under grace?  Child of God –You are FREE!  Every heir of promise, every child of God is made free by the blood shed sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  You are no longer bound by the law, you are under the grace of God.

Knowing that this is true, why don’t we live that way?  Why do we allow ourselves to be brought back under the bondage of the law?  Since we have been set free, why do we find ourselves trying to keep some law or set of laws?  We are free from the law!  Don’t allow yourself to be brought back under any system that tries to place requirements upon you!  Christ has set you free from the law that you are not able to keep, anyway.  Christ paid your sin debt.  You could not pay it.  You did not even care about your sin debt.  You did not even see yourself as a sinner.

If you know the sting of sin, or the weight of sin, or the guilt of the sin in your life, you have been set free from your sin.  Christ has paid the sin debt.  You have been washed in the blood of the lamb.  You have been made alive by the Spirit of God.  You are no longer in bondage to the law of sin.  You have been set free.

Why do you live as though you are a slave to sin?  You are no longer a captive.  Don’t live like one.  Live in the freedom that you have been given.  Serve the One that made you free!  Give God the Glory He deserves for the Light that He has placed within you in the new birth.  Don’t let anyone cover the light that is within you.  Don’t let you cover the light that is in you.  LET IT SHINE!  Give God glory!  Praise Him for the freedom He has given.  Don’t let yourself become a captive again.

Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

Romans 6:15  What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

God Bless.

The Lamb For The Sacrifice

When we consider the prophecy of the Old Testament, we look to the New Testament for the fulfilment of the prophecy. Isaac asked his father Abraham about the lamb that they needed to use for the sacrifice that they were about to offer to God. Abraham stated that God would provide Himself a lamb for the sacrifice. Remember that Abraham was about to offer His only son Isaac as the sacrifice.

There are many aspects of this account that we could consider for discussion. The portion I want to think about today is the fact that this prophecy was fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, was the fulfillment of this Old Testament prophecy that God did in fact provide Himself a Lamb for THE sacrifice. Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh. Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for the sin of the people of God. Jesus Christ is the Great High Priest that offered the sacrifice. The sacrifice for the sin of the people required a perfect, sinless sacrifice. The sacrifice for sin required the ability to endure the eternal wrath of God for sin.

The sacrifice for sin had to be provided by God. It had to be God. God fulfilled the demands that were required to satisfy the Holy righteous law. God provided Himself a Lamb for the sacrifice in the Man Christ Jesus.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Gifts and Talents

Why does God give gifts and talents?  He gives them for His use.  The gifts and talents of God are for the children of God to use in HIs service.  God gives us the talents to be used.  We are not to hide our talents.  We are to use them and with God’s grace and help, we can improve those talents and gifts.  We can return them with improvements.  When we prove that we can handle the talents that we have been given, He gives us more to use.

But again, I ask why does God give the gifts and talents?  It is for the benefit of all the children of God’s family.  The family of God is joined as one by the Spirit.  It is the Spirit of God in you that is the same Spirit that I trust is in me.  That same Spirit manifests the gifts and talents in God’s children for all to benefit.  It is not that every man gets every gift, but every gift that is given is given by the Spirit.  We are to use our gift’s for and to the benefit of all of God’s children.  We have to ask ourselves these questions, “Am I using my gifts and talents?”  “Are the children of God benefiting from my gifts and talents?”

1 Corinthians 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

The Same God

God provides His children with spiritual gifts.  We all have different gifts.  Each gift is given for the purpose of God.  God gives us the gifts we need to be effectual in His service.  Even with all the different gifts, there is only one God.  God, the Lord, the Spirit they are the same.  We are thankful that we have different gifts.  The worship service would be very boring if we all were given the same gift.  Each member and each gift are all needed in the service of God.  Each gift is given according to the will of God.  Each gift given by God.  It is the power of God that works in His children and manifests the gifts that He has given.

1 Corinthians 12:4-6  Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.  And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

God Bless.

The Spirit

The Spirit of God is also referred to as the Holy Spirit of promise.   The Apostle Paul tells us in Titus that we have the hope of eternal life because God who cannot lie promised.  The Spirit of God is given in the new birth.  The Spirit performs the work of the new birth.  This work is also referenced in the letter to Titus as regeneration.   The Spirit performs the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost.  The work of regeneration is performed in those that God so loves because they are His sons.  God sends the Spirit of His Son into the hearts of His children.  God’s children are His heirs.  Being an heir means that there is an inheritance.  The inheritance is incorruptible, and undefiled, and it fadeth not away.  It is also reserved in heaven for them.

But thanks be unto God that He has made us aware of our inheritance.  God has also blessed us with the Spirit.  The Spirit is the earnest of our inheritance.  It is a part of our inheritance.  It is the promise of the greater that is yet to come.  Our inheritance is eternal life in heaven with God.  Our bodies will be changed.  This change means that our body will be glorified.  It must be changed and glorified in order to be able to stand in the presence of God.

The Spirit is our promise of the coming of that change.  The fact that God has given us this earnest of our inheritance is an act of the great love that God has for His children.  This act of love gives praise unto the glory of God.

Titus 3:5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Galatians 4:6  And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

1 Peter 1:4  To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

Ephesians 1:14  Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

God Bless.

Sealed

The child of God has been called out of the darkness of sin into the marvelous light of God.  This is a Holy calling.  We also refer to this calling as the new birth.  With this calling comes the inheritance.  In this life we are given the earnest of the inheritance, the Spirit of God.  The Spirit of God guides us in all truth.  Also in the new birth, we are given ears in order to hear gospel.  The Spirit that is now a part of us testifies to us of the truthfulness of the gospel that we hear.  I am not talking about hearing with the natural ears but with the spiritual ears.  This is a hearing of the new man that is a part of us.  When we hear from the heart, our inner man, and believe the witness that we have been given, we are sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.  We are given that seal as a token of our belief of the gospel by the manifest presence of the Spirit of God that is part of us after the new birth.  Our believing does not make the Spirit become a part of us.  Believing the gospel and being sealed shows our trust and confidence in the risen Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:13  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

God Bless.

All The Counsel

It is for us all to understand that the bible contains information that pertains to all areas of our lives.  There is nothing that is left out.  God has made known unto as all that we need while we are in this world.  The Apostle Paul told us that he had declared all the counsel of God.  He held nothing back.  He wanted everyone to have the same understanding that had been given to him.  What a wonderful idea!  A lot of the times in our lives, we experience the opposite of this.  I am sure that we all have had certain leaders, teachers, or mentors that taught us all that we know but they did not teach you all they know.  You know what I am talking about, they act as though they need to keep something back so that they still know more than you.

Not so with the Apostle Paul.  He wanted you to know all that he knew.  He did not want you to struggle through life.  He wanted you to know all the God has revealed.  He declared all the counsel of God.  The more we know, the more we understand and the more we trust in the True and Living God.

Acts 20:27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

God Bless.

Well Pleased

As we learn How To Think Like God Thinks, we also need to learn How To Speak Like God Speaks.  We need to use the words the bible uses to express the thoughts in our heart.  I am striving to be better about this myself.  I know that we have the best intentions when we say the words, but there can be a better choice of words to use.  What word am I talking about?

I just want to look at one word right now.  The word I want to look at is pride.  I am sure that you can think of many times that we think of pride in a good way.  But look at how the word pride is used in the scriptures.  If you do a search for the word pride in the bible it is used 46 times.  Unless I read the passage incorrectly, I don’t believe that any of those times use the word in a good manner.  Most, if not all of those passages use the word pride in a negative manner.

One such negative use is in the book of 1st John.  John speaks of the pride of life.  He tells us that it is of the world and not of the Father.  Pride is a term of worldly views.  I encourage you to look at some of the other uses for this word pride

Now lets look at the other side of this.  If God does not use the word pride in a good way, what word does He use?  God uses the expression, WELL PLEASED.  When God expressed His satisfaction with the work of His Son, what words did He use?  Did God say, “This is my beloved Son in whom I have great pride!”  NO! NO! NO!  God said, “This is My beloved Son in whom I am WELL PLEASED!”

Doesn’t it sound better the way God said it?

1 John 2:16  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Matthew 3:17  And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

God Bless.

Listen

It is always a good time to listen.  No matter the situation, listen.  You need to know the details before you can speak to the situation.  The only way to get the details is to listen.  Don’t speak before you listen.  Try to see from the perspective of the other person.  If the situation is causing you stress, don’t jump to conclusions that could lead you to getting mad.  Control you temper and listen.  Always listen with love in your heart.  Always give the love that you have been given.

James 1:19  Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

Bless Them

How do you respond when things don’t go as you had planned?  Do you get mad at the other person that is involved?  Do you get even?

I know that we have all been told to turn the other cheek.  We have been reminded to do unto others as we would like do unto us.  We should continue to follow this wonderful advice.  But I believe that we should take it to the next level.  After all, are we not trying to live at a higher level of understanding?

The Apostle Paul teaches us that we are to bless them which persecute you.  He immediately repeats himself to emphasize what he has said, bless not cure.  WOW!  If that is not taking the high road then I don’t know where the high road is.  He said to BLESS those that do wrong against you.  To bless is to ask God to bestow His favor upon them.  Ask God to bless the people who have wronged you.  Don’t curse them but ask God to bless them.  That is a wonderful thought.  You have to be nigh unto God to be able to accomplish that.  I pray that we can all achieve that leve of understanding.

Romans 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

God Bless.

Be With You

We know that God is the God of peace.  He is our peace through the sacrifice of Christ.  Christ died for our sins and paid our debt to the Father.  Christ made peace for us with God.

We know that God is everywhere.  There is no place the He is not. Everywhere all the time.  Wherever you go, He goes with you.  There is no place for you to hide.  Just know that because it is a fact.

The Apostle Paul is not praying for God to be with you based on the idea that you can be apart from where God is located.  Paul is praying that the manifest presence of God’s Spirit will be with you.  We want to feel that God is there.  We want to know that God is there.  We want to see that God is there.

Romans 15:33  Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

Stedfast, Unmoveable, Always Abounding

We must continue in the things of the Lord.  We should be settled in the truth.  We can not be allowed to be drawn away from the gospel truth.  Every day of our lives should be in service to God.  Our efforts to serve God will not go unnoticed by God.  He will bless you for your willingness and obedience and labor in His service.  May we always cast our bread upon the water.  He will return it to you after many days.  We will reap what we have sown.  Don’t give up.  Don’t quit.  Run the race that has been set before you.  Run your race with patience.  God gives you the strength that you need to endure through the hard times.  God will carry you through the bad times.  He is always with you.  Please remember that if you can remember nothing else.  God is always with you.  When you remember that truth, it will give you the strength that you need to remain stedfast and unmoveable.  With that strength you will be able to abound in work of the Lord.  After all,  your hope is built on THE ROCK of AGES, a sure foundation.  You are anchored to He that is within the veil.

1 Corinthians 15:58  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

God Bless.

No Man Knows

Are you ready?  What manner of persons ought we to be?  Do we watch for His coming?  What will you be doing when your Saviour comes back?  How will you be seen?  Will you have to try to hide your shame because of the activity in which you are participating?  OOPS!  Will you be excited?  Thank you Jesus!  You won’t have much time to correct anything…….”in a moment and the twinkling of an eye.”

It will happen when it is supposed to happen.  No man knows when that will be.  It is a set time and it is a time certain.  But only God Himself knows when that will be.  We are to ALWAYS be ready for that moment.  It should never catch us by surprise.  We should be looking for and hastening to that moment.  We know it will happen, we just don’t know when.

Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Love Him

I want you to know that we are to love one another.  We are to love God.  We love Him because He first loved us.  Give all that you have to God.  Love Him in all things!  He is the source of ALL love!!  Our entire lives are to be in the love of God!  There is never a time not to love God!  Draw nigh unto Him!  Glorify Him! Love Him in every fiber of your being!  Words fail me in my attempts to express to you just how much we should love God.  Don’t take my words for it, believe the bible.

Deuteronomy 6:5  And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

God Bless.

Marriage Or Dating

Is it just me or are there others that feel the way that I do.  Too many people in the world today have this idea that marriage is just like dating.  Am I wrong about this?  How do you feel?

There are young people who get married and then think that they can just “break-up.”  Do they think that they are still in high school?  If you are married and you break-up, do you get your Letterman jacket back?  Seriously?  You can’t even look to the “grown-ups.”  How many famous couples just decide to split up?  (I will withhold names to protect the guilty.)

The scriptures are very clear.  Marriage is a union.  It is serious.  It is a lifelong committment.  God designed the union to last as long as they both shall live.  The bible says the two shall be one.

Marriage is a divine institute, sanctioned by God, commended by the Apostle Paul as honorable unto all men.  Jesus Christ blessed the marriage ceremony when He performed His first miracle, turning water into wine, at Cana of Galilee.  Therefore, marriage is not to be entered into lightly or unadvisedly; but reverently, discreetly and in the fear of God.

Mark 10:9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

God Bless.

The Light of Life

Let us always remember the fact that Christ is our life. Jesus is the source of all life. God was with in the world in bodily form. The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. God in the form of a man was named Jesus.

We live, move and have our being because of the life we have been given. The source of that life is Christ. Live your life in a way that people may know that you are a child of God. Live your life to give God glory and honor. Let your light shine. Let the world see that the Spirit of God is part of you. Jesus is the Light of your life.

John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Come And Walk

Brethren, we have been given the biggest blessing that God could give us, apart from the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  God has given us His light.  He has given us the knowledge of that light.  It is all through the scriptures.  God is light and in Him is no darkness at all!  He is the true light!  He is the light of the World!  You are the children of the light!

I plead with you now just as the prophet Isaiah did in chapter two.  COME!  I want you to WALK in the LIGHT!  I want to walk in the LIGHT with you!  There is no better place to be that in the light of God!

Isaiah 2:5  O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

God Bless.

Him That Is Weak

I am glad that we have the opportunity to increase our knowledge of the things of God.  It is also a great  blessing to be able to share our understanding with others.  God gives you knowledge and you can share it with others.

It is the desire of the teaching of the Apostle Paul that we support those that are weak in understanding.  We are to receive those that desire to increase their knowledge.  We need to be careful not to be confrontational about the differences of beliefs.  We can discuss the differences to help achieve a better understanding of the truth but don’t argue and fight about the differences.

Our focus and drive must be based in love.  We must be caring and loving with those that desire a better understanding of the truth of God.  Count it a blessing when God uses you to bless others.

Romans 14:1  Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

Abounding

Are we abounding in the things that we have been taught?  Are we abounding in the things of God?  We have been given an understanding of the things of God.  We have been made aware of the blessing of God that we have been given.  Are we abounding?

In the Strong’s dictionary for the word abounding, in addition to the definition, we have been given an example of how the word is used.  “Abounding” is used of a flower going from a bud to full bloom.  I believe that is a wonderful way to describe the word abounding.  We are to, grow in the knowledge.  We are to, go on to perfection.  Let us, press toward the mark.  Are we not to, be always striving to be more Christ like in our conduct?

Brethren, let us go on to perfection!  Abounding with thanksgiving in the things which we have been taught.

Colossians 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

God Bless.

Your Body

It is for us to understand that we live for God.  We may think that we live for ourselves, but we don’t.  Our lives are not our own.  We are bought with a price.  We need to understand that fact and live our lives for God.  We are debtors to our God for all the kindnesses that He has blessed us with.  We are blessed.  We need to glorify God with our body.  Your body is the dwelling place of the Spirit of God.  Do you act like that is true?  I pray that you and I both live that fact.

Romans 14:7  For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

1 Corinthians 6:20  For ye are bought with a price:  therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

His Rest

I want to share poem that I wrote.  It is based on the thoughts that are presented in Matthew 11:28-29.  It is a thought of the rest that the child of God can have.  We can have the rest we desire from the labour of our sins.  It is a promise that Christ has given.

                                                      His Rest

I came to my Saviour, with tears on my face,
In sadness and weakness, confused and displaced.

I could not come proudly, but kneeling in place,
Came begging for mercy, and pleading for grace.

I told of my labors, and struggles within,
Confessed my transgressions, and all of my sins.

He told me He hears me.  He loves me and cares.
He knows all my failings, my doubts and my fears.

He held me, embraced me, I leaned on His breast.
With peace and forgiveness, He gave me His rest.

His rest was reviving, to my weary soul.
His grace all-sufficient and that you should know.

I must not go from Him, must always draw nigh,
And live in His presence each morning and night.

Matthew 11:28-29 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

God Bless.

In Part

While we are in this world we will never fully understand all there is to know about God.  There is so many things that God has revealed to us that we can only understand parts of the matter.  We can only know in part.  We do not have the ability to fully understand be cause of the limited abilities of our minds.

This is not an excuse to not know all that we can about this great God that we serve.  Who by searching can find out God?  His ways are past our finding out.  But we should still find out all that can.  Consider it a blessing and be thankful that He has revealed some of His truth unto you.  Search out all that is within your ability as a child of God.  Increase your knowledge of God.  May God bless you to grow in your part.

1 Corinthians 13:9  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

God Bless.

Charity

What is charity?  Some people say that it is love.  I have been taught that is more than just love.  It is like a love feast.  Charity is when there is a feast of love.  What do you think of when I mention a feast?  First thought is food, right?  Now you are not thinking about a small meal with a very limited amount of food.  A feast has an overwhelming abundance of food.  There is no lack of food at a feast.  When I think of charity, I think of an overwhelming abundance of love.

Another thought about charity that is just as important is there is now expectation of anything in return.  If you give a donation to charity, do you expect to receive anything in return?  Surely not, you would not be able to call it charity if you expected to receive a return on your donation.  We should have that same thought about charity of love.  Give of your love freely and expect nothing in return.  Give a love feast and be blessed in the giving.

1 Corinthians 13:2  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

God Bless.

Wilt Thou Be Made Whole?

I want to look at the first section of the fifth chapter of John.  John is telling us about the pool of Bethesda.  This pool was the place that many people with various infirmities could be found.  They would gather at this pool with the desire to be healed of their ailments.

This pool was the location that was known to have healing waters.  At a certain time an angel would come and “trouble” the water.  If you needed to be healed and were the first to enter the troubled water, you would be healed no matter what disease you had.  There was a certain near the water that had  an infirmity thirty-eight years.  Every time he would try to enter the water, someone would step in before he could reach the water.  He also did not have anyone to carry him to the water.

Jesus was there to witness this event take place.  Jesus asked him if he desired to be healed.  Do we as children of God have a desire to be healed?  Do we go to the place where we can be healed?  Do we look at our infirmities as being the reason we don’t make it to the water?  Do we think that our infirmities are too big for one person and think we need someone to carry us?  What other excuses do we hold on to that prevent us from being healed?

John 5:6  When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

God Bless.

Rest For The Weary

I am tired!  Do you ever feel that way?  I know that there are many times in my life that I feel that I can’t continue on the way I am.  My life is beat down more than I can comprehend.  I just get tired of the struggles.  I don’t want the battle to continue any further.  Sin is too great for me to continue.

Christ gives us rest when we come to Him.  The more we understand the love of Christ, the more we can enjoy the rest.  Learn all that you can about Christ.  You will understand the power of His grace and mercy.  There is rest for the weary!  There is rest for you!

Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Come Unto Me

There is a commandment given to the child of God in Matthew 11:28.  The commandment is also given as a promise.  The commandment is to COME.  The promise is REST.  Matthew has also given us a detailed description of the ones to whom Christ is talking.  Christ is talking to all that labour and are heavy laden.

The word labour presents the thought to grow weary, tired, exhausted with toil or burdens or grief.  The words heavy laden presents the idea of being burdened upon, as in to load with a heavy burden.  It is the child of God to whom Christ is talking.  It is the child of God that has the law of God written in their mind and upon their heart.  The Apostle Paul tells us about his experiences in Romans seven.  He tells us about the burdens and labours that he endured after the law of God became a part of him.

Just as the Apostle Paul described, we too begin to feel the weight of our sins after the new birth.  We now know of the wrong in our actions.  Along with this knowledge comes the guilt.  We can now see all the sinful things in our lives.  Even our thoughts begin to convict us. No wonder it is called a burden and a labour.  We truly feel to be heavy laden with the sin nature that we now know.

Child of God, if you are in a state of labouring and being heavy laden with the sin in your life, come to Christ and He will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

God Bless.

Do It Heartily

What are you called to do in life?  What do you want to do when you grow up?  It is not my desire to direct you in the answers to those questions.  It is my desire to encourage you that whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability.  Give 100% in all that you do.

In the book of Colossians, the Apostle Paul told us a very similar thing.  He said that in whatsoever ye do, do it heartily.  What do it mean to do something heartily?  It basically means to be sincere in what you do.  You want your actions to be from the heart.  I am not talking about the organ that pumps blood throughout your body.  I am referring to the part of you that is the essence of who you are, your heart and soul, that inner man.

What ever you do in this life, do it from the heart.  Give your best efforts and perform as if you are performing for God.  Everything that we do should be done to the Lord.  We should not do things to please man or one another.  We should give our best to glorify God in all that we do.  Do we seek the praise of men or the praise of God?  The praise of God is far better.  So, whatever you do in life when you grow up, do it heartily and do it unto God.

Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

God Bless.

We Are Blessed

There is another thing of which we all need to be well aware.  God is good and God is great.  Without Him we are nothing.  Because He loved us, WE ARE BLESSED!

Peace of God

May God grant you His peace.  God is with you.  His peace is with you.  Even though we may not understand the peace of God, it is ours.  We can search out all that is humanly possible the things of God, there is still more to know than we can fully understand this side of heaven.  While this is true, it is still with you and will keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.  You don’t need to understand the peace of God to enjoy the benefits of the peace of God.  Why would we live in this world and not embrace the peace that is with us?  God is with us.  The peace that passeth all understanding is with you.  Why should you fear?  Why should you worry?  God is peace.  God is in you.  You have peace.  Enjoy it!

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Trust in the LORD, Part 2

Yesterday I began with the first part of Psalm 37:3 thinking about our Trust In The Lord.  The more we understand the truth of God, the more we trust in God.  Trusting in God compels us to do good.

The second part of the verse looks at the benefit.  There is a benefit to being obedient to the commandments of God.  We are told that when we do good, we shall dwell in the land.  Do you want to dwell in the land?  What land are we talking about?  We are talking about the land of the living.  We are talking about the land of God.  There is no place I would rather be than in the land of God!

The next layer in this manifold promise is the fact that you will be fed when you dwell in the land.  Verily this is true.  The land of God is a bountiful land.  Remember how the promised land was described?  It was a land that flowed with milk and honey.  It was a truly blessed land.  It was a promised land from God.  There is an abundance of blessings that will feed your soul.

There you have the truth about the promises of God.  If you are obedient to the commandments, you will receive the blessings.  Your obedience does not obligate God to provide you with anything.  God has obligated Himself by making the promise.  He promised.  He will perform it.  God is not a man that He should lie.  The promise is true because it was made by God who cannot lie.

Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

God Bless.

Trust In The Lord

One of the reasons that I have taken on this task is to assist the child of God increased their knowledge.  I contend that with greater knowledge comes greater trust.  The more we know about God and His Son Jesus, the better our understanding of His great Love for His children.

We trust in the living God!  Because of that trust we desire to serve Him.  We are able to present our bodies a living sacrifice because we trust that our lives are in His hands.  We gained that trust through knowledge and the Spirit that guides us in the truth.  Our good works are motivated by our trust in God.

Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

God Bless.

Study

We need to apply ourselves to know as much of the things taught in the bible as we can.  When we apply ourselves to know the scriptures, we gain a greater understanding of the things of God.  We increase our knowledge and gain wisdom by studying the word of God.  It is a wonderful blessing to be guided by the Spirit in the truth.

God is pleased when we learn His word.  The Spirit of God will assist you and bless your efforts.  The more you know, the more you will desire to know.  You will seek to know more.  It is a wonderful cycle to be in.  You study, God Blesses!  Repeat!  You study, God Blesses!  Repeat.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

God Bless.

I Was In The Spirit!

Have you ever read a particular verse in the bible and felt like you knew exactly what the writer meant?  I know that everyday is the Lord’s Day.  We also call this the Lord’s Day.  We were blessed with an amazing worship service today!  The Spirit of the Lord was with us and the manna from heaven fed our hungry souls!  I was in sensory overload today, naturally and Spiritually.  I tasted the goodness of God today!  I could smell the sweet savour!  I felt the Lord today!  I heard the voice of God today!  I saw God today!

Revelation 1:10  I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

How do you view God?

How do you view God?  Many times we are guilty of trying to see God through the limits of our thinking.  We can only see things with our limited human vision, right?  Is that true?

Children of God have better vision than the natural eye.  The children of God have been given the EYE of Faith.  We are not limited to the natural vision.  The Spirit of God is in you and it gives you the eye to which I am referring.  We are no longer confined to the natural world.  Through the grace and power of God we are allowed to look into heaven itself, by the Spirit.

With the Spirit comes the ability to use those spiritual senses.  Have you experienced yours?  You can now see God in all His splendor, all His glory, all His honour and all His majesty.  Bless the Lord with that view!

Psalm 104:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.

God Bless!

Bodily Exercise

If you are like me, you have probably used the verse in 1 Timothy 4:8 as an excuse not to get off the couch.  It does say that “bodily exercise profiteth little.”  See there, scripture proof not to exercise.  But, I suppose that would be taking it out of context.  So what is the context?

The Apostle Paul is dealing with a problem that will present itself in the latter times.  In the previous verses he tells us about those times.  He tells of some that will depart from the faith.  The faith refers to the body of belief that was “once delivered to the saints” as taught by Jude.  They have taken heed to the things being taught by seducing spirits.  They are following after the doctrines of devils and even speaking hypocritical lies.  These persons are described as “having their having their conscience seared with a hot iron.”  Why would you depart from the faith?  Why would you believe the lies?  Someone that has tasted the goodness of the true and living God could not be drawn away in a clear conscience.  There would surely be some manipulation of the conscience to prevent you from holding to the true faith.

Paul also talks of some requirements that will be placed on those that are drawn away from the faith.  Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats are two that he has listed.  In other words they will have restrictions placed on them and in essence, placing them back under the works of the law.  These restrictions are requiring these persons to deny self and show a measure of personal and especially spiritual discipline.  This requirement is restricting persons from blessings that God has allowed for His children.

God has blessed us with the union of marriage even stating that it is not good for man to be alone(Genesis 2:18).  Paul tells us that every creature of God is good.  We should not refuse any if we receive it with thanksgiving.  We are also told that we should pray and ask the Lord to bless the meat or any food.  In that prayer we are asking God to bless or sanctify the food.  In other words, we ask Him to set it apart for the nourishment of our body and bless our body to serve Him.

Abstaining from marriage and abstaining from eating meat require us to withhold our body from engaging in certain activities.  Paul said that there is only a little profit in going through the motions of bodily activity.  He did not say that there was no profit only little profit.  Paul even encouraged men to remain unmarried as he, but he did not forbid them to marry (1 Corinthians 7:7).  As we serve and worship God, there are certain activities in which we should participate.  The participation in the activity, bodily exercise, is only the start.  We should not exercise ourselves in just the activity but give ourselves wholly to the worship of God.  Are we just going through the motions or do we desire more from the worship service?  Are you attentive to the preaching?  Do you apply yourself to know more of the faith?  Do you meditate on the things of God?  Do you strive to be more like Christ?  Do you want to know more about How To Think Like God Thinks

If you give yourself wholly to the things that pertain to godliness, Paul said it is profitable unto all things.

1 Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

God Bless.

Nourishment

How often do you eat?  Do you eat every day?  I know that most of us eat many times each day.  Why do we do this?  Can we not get by without eating?

Our bodies need nourishment.  We provide the nourishment we need because our bodies let us know of the need.  We have learned the clue our bodies give us called hunger.  Hunger is the drive that motivates us to seek the nourishment that our body needs.

Our inner man needs nourishment too.  We need to nourish our inner man when we get “hungry” for the things of God.  We need to be nourished in the words of faith and doctrine.  We need to read and study the scriptures, the words of God.  The words of truth are the doctrines of grace taught in the scriptures.  This “faith” is the body of belief or teachings of the bible.  The doctrines of God is His teachings.

Are we hungry for the things of God?  Do you get hungry for the words of God?  How often do you provide the Godly nourishment that you need?  I hope that you feed the inner man many times each day?  I hope that you don’t think you can get spiritual nourishment only on Sunday morning?

1 Timothy 4:6  If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

God Bless.

O LORD

I want to thank the Lord for His answered prayer. I had a need. I cried out unto God. He heard my prayer. He healed me. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I have been blessed with healing. There have been things in my mind that have been troubling me for a long time. Past problems, past failures, past shortcomings, I think you understand where I am coming from.

God is able to help with everything that is a problem for you. There is nothing too big or too small for God. What ever “IT” is, give it to God. He will bless you for dealing with “IT” and allowing “IT” to no longer prevent you from serving Him.

It is that simple. Don’t try to make excuses and say, “it may be simple for you” or “easier said than done.” It is truly that simple. LET “IT” GO! It is that simple. Just let it.

I know that we have all heard the saying, “Let Go, Let God.” I heard that there should be a second part to that statement. “Let Go and Let God or else hang on and be ready for one hell of a ride.”

Psalms 30:2 O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

God Bless.

The Voice

As I listen to another night of the storms that are around us, I hear the might thunder. I am made to think of the voice of the Lord. In the 29th Psalm the scriptures record for us very detailed description of the very powerful voice of the Lord. First we are reminded to give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name.

The voice of the Lord is a thundering voice. It is powerful and full of majesty. His voice can divide the flames of the fire, shake the wilderness and even strip the forests bare. The voice of the Lord can also cause the hinds to bring forth their newborn and bring life forth. The voice of the Lord is very powerful in force and yet this same powerful voice can still be gentle and loving.

The writer reminds us that the Lord is the reigning King forever. It is the Lord that gives us strength. We always need the strength of the Lord to endure the storms of life as the come to us. He is our strength and refuge in every storm. If we are to have peace in this life, it must come from the Lord. He is the God of all peace. We have can peace with one another when we are at peace with God. It is truly a blessing from God to have peace.

Psalms 29:1-11 A Psalm of David. Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon. He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn. The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire. The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory. The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever. The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.

God Bless.

In The Storms

It is my thought that I do what we all should do when the Lord delivers us through the storm of our lives. Let us all praise God for the blessing of the life we have. Let us pray for the lives of those that have been affected by the terrible storms this evening. God has blessed many of us tonight with a peaceful calm after the storms. But there are those that received much at the hand of the storm. May God’s Spirit be with them tonight in their hour of need.

Psalms 107:29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.

God Bless.

We Need Mercy

My thoughts for you tonight are very simple.  We need the mercy of God!  We that hope in God are needful of His mercy.  We have to endure many things in this life.  We are not able to endure without the mercy of God.  Plain and simple we need to pray for mercy.  If you are in a situation that you don’t know what to pray for, just pray for mercy.

“Be merciful to me to me a sinner.”

Psalm 33:22  Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

God Bless.

Blessed

Are you living up to your potential?  Do you live the life that you have been given?  You may be wondering what I am talking about.  I am talking about the fact that you are blessed of God.  Have you forgotten this fact?  You are a child of God and you are blessed of God!  Never forget that fact!  God is your heavenly Father and you are His child!

Your elder brother, Jesus Christ, paid you sin debt.  Your sins are covered by the blood of Christ.  This means that your transgressions are forgiven.  That is wonderful news!  Truly, you are blessed!

Psalm 32:1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

God Bless!

Goodness Of God

Tonight as we sit in the truck, I am thinking about the goodness of God.  I know that we all know that God is good. But do we know how good God really is?  Is there a limit to God’s good graces?  Do we have to ration the blessings of God?  Is God affected by the recession?  If the economy is bad, people may not give as much to God. Would there be a recession in being blessed by God?  God forbid!  I hope that you know that I am being a little silly in my comments. God is never diminished in any manner. Everything is God’s and He desires to bless His children.

Psalm 50:10-12  For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.  I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.  If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.

God Bless.

Ye Do Well

How are you doing?

Have you ever been asked that question?  Do you ask that question of other people?  How do they answer?  Do you truly want to know the answer?  If you love your neighbour as yourself, you will genuinely desire the answer.  Do you love your neighbour as yourself?  You do well when you love your neighbour as thyself.

Now you know how to determine your current condition when you’re questioned.  Do you love your neighbor?  You do well.  I hope you will always be able to give a positive.  How are you doing?  I do well.

James 2:8  If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

God Bless.

Gird Up

Are you ready for this?  Have you prepared to protect yourself?  Are you focused on the end?  God has secured your heavenly home with the blood shed sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  It is in that great act of God’s love where our hope is placed.  It gives us strength and courage to endure all that our adversary may have in store for us.

You have to protect your mind from all the mind games that the deceiver may use to try to discourage you.  Maintain self-control in all that you do.  Trust in God for all that you need to proceed in this life until the time comes that we are allowed to enter the glory world.

What a day that will be!
When my Jesus I shall see!
When I look upon His face!
The One who saved me by His grace!
When He takes me by the hand!
And leads me to the promise land!
What a day!  Glorious Day!  That will be!

1 Peter 1:13  Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

God Bless.

Spiritual Senses

Do you use your Spiritual senses?

Have you ever been blessed with the eye of faith to look into heaven itself?  Do you recall a time that you were blessed by the Spirit during the worship service to see God on His throne?  Oh what a wonderful blessing!  It can be hard to describe what you saw.

Have you ever tasted the goodness of the Lord?  It is like trying to describe a piece of chocolate cake.  Words fail to provide a proper description.  Do you just say, “You will just have to taste it.”  It can be that way trying to describe to someone the goodness of God and His graces.  You can’t describe it in a manner that truly tells how it tastes.  if  you don’t know what I am talking about, I hope that God will bless you to taste His goodness.

1 Peter 2:3  If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

God Bless.

Stir You Up

How excited are you?  Are you excited about your level of committment to serving God?  If not, why not?

It is my desire that you would be stirred up with excitement to serve God.  You have been given the same promises that every child of God has been given.  God’s storehouse is always full of His goodness.  Never forget that!  God said that He will bless you when you serve Him.  That is a promise of God!  He will bless you if you are obedient and keep His commandments.

As long as I have the ability to serve God and His children, I will be doing all that I can to stir you up.  I want you to be excited to serve God!  I want you to enjoy the blessings of God for the obedient children.  Serve the Lord with gladness!

2 Peter 1:13  Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

God Bless.

An Inheritance

Children of God! Lend me your ears!

We have an inheritance!

I want every child of God to know this fact of truth. It is wonderful news. It is a great blessing that we have been given from our heavenly Father. Give God all the glory. He is the One that has made us fit vessels for our heavenly home. We do not have the power to make the change in our nature. We have a sinful nature and are not fit for heaven. The Spirit of God performs the work of regeneration and by this work we are made fit for our inheritance.

We also have to give God the glory for blessing us with the knowledge of this life that is within us. If you feel the desire to be with God in heaven when you die, give God the glory, you are His child! The Spirit of God is the witness of the new birth and the source of that desire. Praise God that He has made you meet or fit to be a partaker of the inheritance with all the other saints!

Colossians 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

God Bless.

Meditate Upon These Things

Brethren and Sisters, we have been given the written word of God. It is given for our benefit. It is the desire of God that we understand all that He has done, is doing and will do for His children. Oh what a wonderful blessing it is to understand the word of God! It is my desire and I trust that it is you desire to have a greater understanding of God’s word while I live in this world.

I need to apply myself to the word of God if I am going to understand it. This cannot be an occasional endeavour. I must be diligent in my attempts to obtain a higher level of understanding. I my give myself to the task. I must study God’s word and seek God’s wisdom and pray for understanding. God will bless me in my efforts. He will bless you in your efforts as well.

1 Timothy 4:15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

God Bless.

In Spirit And In Truth

Do you attend church service regularly? If not, why not?

Some people will give the common answer that they can worship God anywhere they may be. While it is true that God is everywhere and you can think about Him no matter where you may be, is God truly the focus of your thoughts while you are in whatever location you may be “thinking” about God. Is not the case that your thoughts are focused on the particular activity that you are engaged in at the time?

Have you ever used or heard someone give this reason for not going to church, “I don’t go to church, I’m spiritual.” Are they really that spiritual or is that an excuse for not attending church services? If I don’t go to church, that can be noted by others. But if I say that “I am spiritual, you cannot refute my statement because being “spiritual” is within.

Brethren, God is a Spirit. He seeketh those that desire to truly worship Him. We must worship Him in Spirit. But the scriptures say that we must worship Him in Spirit and in truth. It takes both to be a true worshipper. If we are to worship Him in truth, should we not seek the truth? Where are you going to find the truth? On the golf course? In the deer stand? In the shopping malls? The truth is found in the house of God. What is the house of God? It is the church of the living God. What is the church of the living God? It is the pillar and ground of the truth.

God give us strength to present ourselves as true worshippers of God. Let us worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

John 4:23-24 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

1 Timothy 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

God Bless.

Every Thing

I hope that all is well with you. I am thankful to God for you. Thank you for reading. Thank you for your comments. I thank God for blessing me to deliver all that is needful in your desire to understand How To Think Like God Thinks. I give God thanks for all His blessings to me.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

His Workmanship

It is God that performs the work of the new birth.  God is the craftsman or workman.  God is the creator and the life giver.  We have no part in being made alive.  Again, we are dead in sin and cannot DO anything.  God must work and give life.

We are His workmanship.  God desires that we perform good works.  God ordained that we should walk in good works.  Spiritual or good works require Spiritual life.

NO life = NO works.

Ephesians 2:10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

God Bless.

Quickened

The word quicken means to make alive.  God is the one that gives life.  Before we are quickened, we are dead in trespasses and sins.  We are unable to change that condition.  It takes the power of God to make alive.  God gives Spiritual life to His children in regeneration.  This quickening takes place at the moment according to His will.  It is the voice of the Son of God that speaks to the child that God loves and quickens them.  No man knows the moment that this takes place.  No man can cause this to take place.  No man can prevent this from happening.  Christ told Nicodemus that it is like the wind that blows.  We can see the effect of the wind but we have no control over the wind.  So is everyone that is born of the Spirit.

Ephesians 2:5  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

John 5:25  Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

John 3:8  The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

God Bless.

Spiritual Life

In yesterday’s post titled, Natural Man, I made the statement Thanks be unto God that He gives us Spiritual life!  It is a wonderful blessing to know that God gives us Spiritual Life.  It is a fact that someone who is dead in sin cannot do anything to obtain eternal life.  It is also a known fact that someone who is dead cannot do anything, period.

God gives us Spiritual life and this life is eternal.  This is an act of a loving, merciful and gracious God.  In the new birth, God’s Spirit performs the work of the new birth.  Regeneration is performed by the Holy Ghost.  Regeneration, being born again, is a washing and a renewing process.  In the new birth, we are made alive to Spiritual things.  God gives eternal life when we are washed in the blood of Christ.  We are made alive or quickened by God.  It is God that gives Spiritual life.  He makes alive from the state of dead in trespasses and sins.  We can’t make alive.

Thanks be unto God that He gives us Spiritual life!

Titus 3:5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Ephesians 2:1  And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

God Bless.

Natural Man

Yesterday we discussed the fact that there is none righteous.  Remember that is referring to man’s nature before the new birth.  On 11/10/2010, we discussed Our Nature.  Please refer to that post for the information about our sin nature.

In our natural state, void of the Spirit of God, we a have sin nature.  There is no good in a person in that state.  Think about that for a minute.  There is no goodness that a person can claim if they do not have the Spirit of God within them.  If you don’t have the Spirit of God, you cannot do anything spiritual.  Remember, without the Spirit you do not have spiritual life.  You are spiritually dead.  You may have natural life, but still be dead in sin:  in nature – alive, in Spirit – dead.

Let me ask a question about Spiritual life.  What abilities do you have if you are dead?  What can you do if you are dead?  If you are dead, you have no abilities and you can do nothing.  You do not have life.  In 1 Corinthians 2:15, the Apostle Paul talked about two things that a person that does not spiritual life(natural man) cannot do.  He talks about receiving and knowing.  Paul tells us that a natural man does not have the ability to receive the things of the Spirit of God.  The things of God are foolishness to the person that is Spiritually dead.  Paul also tells us that the natural man cannot know the things of God.  This is because the things of God are spiritually discerned.  To discern means to perceive by the sight or some other sense or by the intellect; see, recognize, or apprehend.  Without spiritual life, a person cannot perceive, see, recognize, comprehend, apprehend, participate in, do or understand the things of God.  Everything in this list is something that is done by a person or an ability of a person that has life.

The Apostle Paul is telling us about things that the natural man cannot do.  They do not have the ability.  It is not a lack of desire or lack of willingness.  It is all about life.  You cannot do things that require spiritual life if you are dead in sin.  As Paul said, if you are dead to the things of God, all that “God Stuff”, is foolishness.  There is no desire toward God without a Spiritual nature or Spiritual life.

Thanks be unto God that He gives us Spiritual life!

1 Corinthians 2:14  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

God Bless.

None Righteous

What is your natural state?  By nature, we are sinners.  Without the Spirit of God, we have NO righteousness.  There is not one person in this world that has ANY goodness in their human nature.  Righteousness or goodness is not a natural character trait that can be found in a person before the change that takes place in the new birth.

It takes the Spirit of God to give Spiritual life.  With that spiritual life comes the ability to do good.  If you don’t have spiritual life, you don’t have righteousness.  This state of spiritual lifelessness, is also referred to as being dead in trespasses and sin.  We can have natural life and be dead in sin at the same time.  This is an easy concept that a lot of God’s children have a hard time understanding.

Being dead in sin refers to spiritual life.  We may be alive with natural life and not yet born again and possess spiritual life.  It takes this spiritual life in order to perform actions or works that would be considered as righteous or good.  These righteous actions or good works are not the cause of spiritual life but are evidences or proof of the life that is already there.  If you show me someone who can perform an act of righteousness, then you have shown me a person that has spiritual life.

Romans 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

God Bless.

Anger

Anger is defined in the Webster’s 1828 dictionary as:  A violent passion of the mind excited by a real or supposed injury; usually accompanied with a propensity to take vengeance, or to obtain satisfaction from the offending party.

There are times in our lives that we become angry.  We feel that we have been wronged in some way and can not let it go.  The Apostle Paul advised us that if we became angry, we should be cautious that we did not carry that anger forward and allow it to cause us to sin.  It is one thing to be angry.  It is another thing to take vengeance upon the offending person.

We should learn to control our anger.  Control your emotions.  It takes great strength to “be the boss” of your thoughts.  In the end, you will be pleased with your ability to control yourself.  But greater still, God will be pleased.

Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

God Bless.

What Did You Say?

What did you say?

Do you like to talk trash?  You don’t gossip, do you?  Ever let one of those four letter words slip?  I know that we have all said things that we have regretted.  But that is ok, right?  Well, I think the answer to that question depends on who you ask.  Are you trying to justify your words to me?  Your family?  Your friends?

What would you say if I asked you to justify the words you use?

What would you say to God?

Psalm 139:4  For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

Known Me

Here is a thought that will wake you up.  God knows you better than you know yourself.  There is nothing in your life that God doesn’t know about.  Knowing this information can give you relief to know that God knows you to be true and He knows that you are giving your best to be obedient to His laws.  Know this information can also make you shake in your boots.  God knows everything that you are thinking both good and bad.  You better keep your thoughts in check. This should be a call to action!  God knows your desires toward Him and you shortcomings.  Yet He loves you anyway.  Thanks be to God for the knowledge of the truth.

Psalm 139:1-2  O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.  Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

God Bless.

Love Of God

How do you know that God loved us?  He showed His love for us by doing the one thing that could be done to redeem us.  Chris shed His blood on the cross.  He gave His life to pay our sin debt.  There is no greater love than this!

1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

God Bless.
